Senior Fraud Detections Strategist | Microsoft | Redmond, WA

November 2024 – Present

  • Acted as SME on Microsoft 365 (M365) fraud and abuse for Central Fraud Abuse Risk (CFAR) team focusing on real time and behavioral detection models

  • Collaborated with data scientists to prioritize data analyses and studies addressing fraud scenarios on M365, including examining malicious actor behavior during outbound email activities

  • Worked closely with data science teams to provide business expertise for implementation of a domain impersonation detection model for M365 tenant management scenario

  • Streamlined and managed investigation outcome feedback to data science for model training and data labelling

  • Worked with internal product teams to assess fraud risks and build heuristics for fraud detection and prevention

  • Focused on Attack Simulation Training (AST) within Microsoft Defender for Office 365 (MDO)

    • AST is a product that enables organizations to send phishing simulations and trainings to measure, manage, and improve their organization’s resilience against phishing email attacks and social engineering

  • Designed and launched new telemetry for customers to gain better insights of user susceptibility behavior

  • End-to-end design and launch of training-only campaign feature to enable organizations to utilize the AST security full training catalog

  • Worked collaboratively and globally across security, operations, and product teams to develop the holistic fraud prevention strategy for M365 paid subscription fraud, free trial abuse, and new M365 product onboardings including Windows 365

  • Led cross org team across product team, business development, marketing, data science, and operation to set KPIs and reduce the significant fraud pressure for Windows 365 during their initial launch phase by more than 28%

  • Identified and created solution to address $2.5M+/ year loss due to legacy billing system – implementation of mitigation and identification solution and process reduced annual loss by 86%

  • Created strategy to remediate $500k+/ month fraud issues on M365 academic platform to reduce subscription reselling abuse and spam attacks by 30%

  • Acted as SME on educational tenant and subscription abuse across multiple teams and coordinated the plan of action to identify and mitigate bad actors which resulted in the takedown of multiple fake educational institutions on the Microsoft platform
